some historical Stuff

The situation of the museum at the end of the 1970s, beginning of the 1980s:

Some exhibition rooms
Alongside art and history, natural history is just one section of the state museums
3 people work in miserable conditions in the basement and in the storage room
A very poor budget, which does not allow it to develop further or to realize the ideas of the voluntary employees.

    The establishment of a company

In 1982, a group of idealists

    • Josie Huberty
    • Claude Meisch
    • Jim Meisch
    • Mark Meyer
    • Leopold Reichling
    • Norbert Stomp
    • Mark Bley

joins together and decides to establish a company with the following objectives (cf. statutes):

promote the influence of the Museum of Natural History
to support the activities and contribute to enriching the collections and equipment through donations in kind or in cash or through loans.
arousing public interest by organizing conferences, exhibitions, guided tours, publishing articles, studies and catalogs

From the first hour we are members of Natura, the umbrella association of nature and environmental protection organizations.

    First step

Letters of appeal to keep the museum going are sent to all possible potential donors, such as banks, large companies, garages, etc., in the hope of getting enough funds together. The museum should get decent basic material to be able to work.

In 1983, the administration of the museum received a high-performance photocopier.
In 1985, the cultural fund was created, and from that moment on, donations can be tax-deductible.
Since 1986, the museum has been provided with a van, the maintenance of which is entirely borne by us.
There will be other cars, a trailer, a computer for the graphics service (1,000,000.- francs), another van for the Panda Club, a barco for the educational service, a sequencer for the population biology service, etc. …

    And for our members

In addition to his use for the museum itself, which is no longer necessary from the year 2000 because the museum received its financial autonomy from then on, which allows him to manage his own shop, we are of course also from the beginning at the service of our members.

Scientific conferences, training courses, cooking classes, guided tours, day and night excursions, and even cultural trips abroad are regularly organized.

    • Senckenberg Museum Frankfurt (1983)
    • Alsace (1993)
    • Munich (1994)
    • Brussels (1994)
    • Riederalp/Switzerland (2000)
    • Amsterdam and Leiden (2001)
    • Vosges (2002)
    • Berlin (2002)
    • Paris (2008)
      ...

A big thank you to our approximately 540 loyal members and all former committee members and presidents.
